Hummingbird Nectar Recipe
"Award
winning accommodations in scenic Boulder Canyon."
With
100's of Hummingbirds calling the Alps home we found this recipe
is easy and keeps our feathered friends humming!
Hummingbird
Nectar
This
nectar recipe is simple and our birds love it.
1 cup white
granulated sugar (beet or cane)
4 cups water
Clean and fresh tap or bottled water.
Boil
water in a stainless pan (avoid aluminum if possible) add sugar to
boiling water, mix thoroughly and allow to cool.
Be sure to wash your feeder completely, this
is very important to remove any bacteria or mold. Many feeders are
difficult to rinse so use plenty of clean water.
Extra nectar
can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Do not use brown sugar, red food coloring, jello, any kind
of sugar substitute or anything else in this mixture.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Keep your feeders full. Hungry Hummingbirds
will leave the area if feeders are left empty for any length of time.
These delightful little birds will return year after year to a bountiful
supply of fresh nectar.
If your feeder becomes cloudy, discard remaining
nectar and wash and rinse thoroughly and refill.
If you have not completely rinsed your feeder
clean of any soap residue your Hummingbirds will avoid it like the
plague and you will have a difficult time attracting them back.
Be cautious about putting plastic feeder parts
in a high temp dishwasher. We have had them warp to the point of being
unusable.
We use and recommend Perky-Pet Hummingbird feeders and our favorite is the No. 209 with a 30 oz.
glass bottle.
Be cautious about attracting bears and locating
feeders near glass that might be broken in a bears attempt to get
the feeder.
